Day 1: Drive Rishikesh to Tugasi Village

Driving Distance: 265 km
Time Taken: 8-9 hours
Highlights: Scenic drive along the Ganga and Alaknanda rivers, passing Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag.
 
The journey begins with a drive from Rishikesh to Tugasi Village, the starting point of your trek. As you leave Rishikesh, you’ll travel along the banks of the Ganga, crossing iconic confluences at Devprayag and Rudraprayag. The route offers stunning views of river valleys and terraced mountainside villages, with the snow-clad peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas appearing as you ascend. Upon reaching Tugasi, a quaint mountain village, you’ll spend the night and prepare for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Tugasi to Tali forest

Trekking Distance: 8 km
Trekking Time: 5-6 hours
Highlights: Ascending through oak and rhododendron forests, views of Nanda Devi, Hathi Ghoda peaks.
 
The trek begins with a gradual ascent from Tugasi, taking you through terraced farmlands and dense forests of oak and rhododendron. The trail is peaceful and scenic, with glimpses of Nanda Devi and Hathi Ghoda peaks appearing as you climb higher. During winter, the landscape transforms into a snowy paradise, adding a magical charm to the surroundings. After trekking for about 5-6 hours, you will reach Tali Forest, where you’ll set up camp amidst the serene wilderness.

Day 3: Trek To Kuari pass and back

Trekking Distance: 14 km (round trip)
Trekking Time: 7-8 hours
Highlights: Stunning views from Kuari Pass, panoramic vistas of Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and Kamet peaks.
 
On this day, you will trek to the highlight of the journey—the Kuari Pass. The trail takes you higher through the snow-laden forests and across open meadows, with awe-inspiring views all around. Upon reaching Kuari Pass, you are rewarded with a 360-degree panorama of some of the highest peaks in the Indian Himalayas, including Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and Kamet. The sense of accomplishment is immense as you stand amidst towering peaks. After spending time soaking in the views, you will return to Tali Forest for the night.

Day 4: Tali forest to Auli via gurson bugyal

Trekking Distance: 9 km
Trekking Time: 5-6 hours
Highlights: Trekking through the vast meadows of Gurson Bugyal, views of the Nanda Devi and surrounding peaks, snow-covered meadows.
 
Today’s trek takes you from Tali Forest to Auli, passing through the expansive meadows of Gurson Bugyal. The trail is a visual treat as you walk through snow-covered meadows with uninterrupted views of Nanda Devi and other majestic peaks. Gurson Bugyal is a vast alpine meadow that transforms into a winter wonderland, perfect for photography and soaking in the serene beauty. From Gurson Bugyal, the trek descends to the famous ski town of Auli, where you’ll stay for the night, enjoying the Himalayan views.

Day 5: Auli to Rishikesh

Driving Distance: 265 km
Time Taken: 8-9 hours
Highlights: Return journey through scenic mountain roads.
 
The final day of the trek involves a scenic drive back to Rishikesh. As you make your way down the mountains, the views of the rivers and valleys offer a calming end to the adventurous trek. You’ll pass through the same confluences and mountain towns as on the first day, allowing time to reflect on the incredible experiences of the trek. By evening, you will arrive back in Rishikesh, marking the end of your Winter Kuari Pass adventure.

Fitness Requirement for Kuari Pass Trek?

Cardiovascular Endurance
Since the trek involves walking for long hours at a stretch, cardiovascular endurance is critical. You should be able to trek 5-6 km in one go without feeling out of breath.
Target: Be able to run/jog 4-5 km in 30 minutes.
Preparation Plan: Running, cycling, swimming, or brisk walking at least 3-4 times a week for 30-45 minutes.

Leg Strength

Exercises: Planks, Russian twists, mountain climbers, and leg raises. Aim for 3-4 sets of core exercises every alternate day.

Flexibility
Good flexibility will prevent injuries, especially in your legs and lower back.
Target: Stretch your muscles regularly to prevent stiffness.
Exercises: Include dynamic stretches like leg swings, hip openers, and static stretches for your hamstrings, calves, and quadriceps.

Upper Body Strength
Though it’s not as crucial as leg strength, a certain level of upper body fitness is needed to carry your backpack comfortably over the trek’s duration.
Target: Be able to carry a 6-8 kg backpack for several hours.
Exercises: Push-ups, pull-ups, shoulder presses, and resistance band exercises. Do these 2-3 times a week.

Acclimatization
As the trek reaches an altitude of around 12,000 feet, acclimatization becomes important to avoid altitude sickness (AMS).
